Eamonn Byrne

Sprint Coach

Cycling Career

Whilst it is easy for focus on Eamonn’s success on the tandem, it is important to highlight his own solo career. A relative late comer to cycling, Eamonn fell in love with the sport whilst riding and racing at Sundrive, aged 26. He was, however, quickly successful, winning a total 6 Gold, 10 Silver and 6 Bronze medals.

Eamonn’s ability and potential was noticed by Cycling Ireland and he was invited to race with Martin Gordon allowing him to dedicate himself to a tandem kilo performance at the Tokyo Paralympics. Coupling the support given to them by cycling Ireland with a single minded approach to their targets, Eamonn and Martin set out on a 5 year campaign resulting in them delivery a new national record and life time personal best of 1.01.5 seconds for the kilo in Tokyo, earning them 5th place. Both their times and results improved consistently during this time as they benefited from their relentless work ethic and desire to train better. It is fair to say that the ride in Tokyo was not guaranteed, but it was inspiring to see how they both handled themselves in ultimately achieving their dream of a world class performance in Tokyo.

Is Eamonn The Right Coach For You?

Eamonn prides himself on his sport science knowledge and desire to learn more. Many coaches do. What makes Eamonn stand out is that this is coupled with the purest love of both the sport and helping people to better themselves. Eamonn is known for his ability to ignite passion and self-belief in those that he works with and we believe that making people excited about their training is what allows them to progress from simply completing training, to thriving on it! This was at the very forefront of our decision to work with Eamonn and we are delighted to have him with us.

His career as a Police Officer also gives a great understanding of people from different backgrounds, a quality that few coaches have.
