Earlier this year it was confirmed that I would be supporting the GB Para Triathlon team on an April training camp in Quitan Do Lago, Portugal. The objective was to work the team in developing their technical bike ability.

Our mission was to put together a series of progressive sessions allowing riders to develop their cornering and technical abilities, but more importantly to give a structured process to allow them to make decisions when in high pressure environments and under fatigue.

Fortunately, on arrival I confirmed that the local carpark was essentially a purpose built 1km crit circuit. The sessions initially set out to assess each rider. We then detailed a clear cornering strategy before gradually opening the environment in incremental steps, finishing in a full race simulation.

The riders covered a range of abilities, but all progressed and it was a great pleasure for me to engage with a world class high performance team in a different sport. A lot of fun for me and fantastic to see the improvements in the team. It also gave a new perspective on just how much triathletes train!
